Fund for SME - Southeast Asia has announced that applications are now open for the Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award 2026, targeting researchers, innovators, and individuals working in science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development across ASEAN.

At the workshop “Mechanisms, Policies, and Technical Requirements in the Hydrogen Energy Industry in Vietnam” organized by the Department of Coal and Oil and Gas – Ministry of Industry and Trade on May 8, 2026, the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) offered numerous suggestions related to standards, policies, and market development orientations for hydrogen in Vietnam.

The CFA Viet Nam programme would like to share a global funding opportunity for clean energy innovation projects announced by the British Embassy in Hanoi under the Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility, implemented by UNIDO.

This is the third global call for proposals under the A2D Facility, part of the UK Ayrton Fund commitment to support clean energy Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) in ODA-eligible countries. The programme is funded by the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) with a total budget of £110 million.

Leadership of the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) has officially received an invitation to attend HYDROGEN DIALOGUE 2026 in Munich, Germany, as a high-level guest, keynote speaker, and international podcast guest.

The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association of Singapore (HFCAS) will host the Singapore Hydrogen Industry Symposium 2026 on 22 June 2026 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre.

The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) will participate in the International Conference on Business and Economic Management (ICBEM 2026), hosted by Chihlee University of Technology, Taiwan, in Session 18: Others / Education / Social (II), scheduled for 26 May 2026 from 14:00 to 16:00 (Discussion Room: E11).

The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) has officially announced its partnership with the 18th Solar PV & Energy Storage World Expo – PV Guangzhou 2026, one of Asia’s largest clean energy events.

The exhibition will take place from September 16 to 18, 2026 at Area B, Canton Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China. The event is expected to span 180,000 sqm, featuring over 2,000 exhibitors and attracting more than 250,000 global visitors.

The ASEAN Smart Energy & Energy Storage Expo 2026 (ASEE 2026), held in Bangkok from March 25–27, concluded with record-breaking growth in scale, international participation, and buyer engagement, reinforcing its position as one of the leading energy events in Southeast Asia.

The Building Sustainable Vietnam workshop will take place on 15 June 2026 (09:00 – 17:00, GMT+7) at New World Saigon Hotel.

The event is organized by the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore, SEAS, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and businesses from Singapore and Vietnam to explore opportunities in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure, while fostering bilateral collaboration to support Vietnam’s clean energy transition.

HCMC April 17 2026, At the headquarters of Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Wisdom Fujian Motor Co., Ltd. to establish a strategic partnership in advanced commercial vehicles.

The agreement focuses on the supply, deployment, localization, and distribution of Wisdom’s full product portfolio in Vietnam, including:

• Hydrogen fuel cell buses
• Battery-electric buses
• Range-extended hybrid vehicles
• Minibuses, midi buses, coaches, and specialist vehicles

Ho Chi Minh City – At the “Comprehensive Health Experience – Session 2” workshop co hosted by UNP Healthcare and Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC), Nguyen Thieu Son, Founder of The Gioi Hydro, presented a practical and accessible perspective on the use of hydrogen in proactive health support and recovery.

Opening his presentation with a strong message, he emphasized:

“Hydrogen is not only about reducing carbon emissions… it is life within every human cell.”

Ho Chi Minh City – In a lively and engaging workshop atmosphere, Dr. Cao Thúy Oanh guided participants through a journey spanning over 200 years – how hydrogen, a gas once reserved for rockets and industrial plants, is now applying for a strategic role in modern medicine. "Hydrogen is not only a fuel for the energy future – it is also a fuel for the future of medicine," Dr. Oanh opened her presentation. The 2007 Breakthrough: The Birth of "Hydrogen Medicine"

In May 2026, the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) will participate in and organise two important activities aimed at strengthening international cooperation and advancing the policy, regulatory, and standardisation framework for Vietnam’s hydrogen sector.

On 7 February 2024, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision No. 165/QD-TTg approving the National Hydrogen Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with Vision to 2050, identifying hydrogen as a strategic pillar in Vietnam’s long-term energy transition roadmap.

However, despite this strategic direction, Vietnam currently lacks a dedicated and comprehensive legal and regulatory framework for hydrogen development. Hydrogen project developers and investors continue to face significant uncertainty regarding:

• Legal classification of hydrogen under Vietnamese law
• Licensing and permitting requirements for hydrogen projects
• Regulations governing hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and use
• Absence of hydrogen-specific technical standards and safety codes
• Lack of certification mechanisms for green / low-carbon hydrogen
• Limited legal guidance on hydrogen/ammonia logistics, export-import, and carbon accounting

In light of these challenges, a focused industry dialogue is needed to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, legal experts, and academia to discuss pathways for establishing a bankable hydrogen regulatory framework in Vietnam.

Within the framework of the Vietnam–U.S. Hydrogen & International Partners Workshop 2026, jointly organized by the Vietnam–ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) and Solberg Manufacturing (USA), an official handover ceremony of a hydrogen inhalation device was held in Ho Chi Minh City. The device was transferred by Hydrogen World, represented by Mr. Nguyen Thieu Son, an independent hydrogen health specialist, to Dr. Nhu Duc Thang, Department of Rehabilitation, National Psychiatric Hospital No. 2, under the auspices of VAHC.

Within the framework of the Vietnam-America Hydrogen Workshop 2026 held on April 10 at Saigon Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. ianton Tan, Director for Asia-Pacific at United Hydrogen, delivered a presentation via video on the vision of building an industrial and agricultural hydrogen society in China.

At the Vietnam–U.S. Hydrogen Workshop 2026, held on April 10 in Ho Chi Minh City under the theme “Advanced Hydrogen Technologies and Semiconductor Supply Chain – Vietnam & ASEAN”, leadership of the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) delivered a strong strategic message regarding Vietnam’s ambition to become a leading hydrogen hub in ASEAN. The event opened with remarks by Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh, Chairman of VAHC, followed by a keynote strategic presentation from Mr. Andy Lei, Vice Chairman of VAHC, titled: “Vietnam Hydrogen Market Overview & Execution Blueprint 2026–2027.”

Immediately following the discussion on new hydrogen technologies, Ms. Tomoe Takeda, Manager in Charge of JCM Projects, International Environment Department of Nippon Koei Co., Ltd., took the stage. She opened with a clear message:

"Vietnam has huge potential in renewable energy and hard-to-abate industries. But technology alone is not enough – the right financial mechanisms are essential. Today, I will introduce the JCM fund and other support schemes from the Japanese government, specifically applicable to green hydrogen projects."
