Brazil has officially classified natural, or geologic, hydrogen as renewable under its new Low-Carbon Hydrogen Law No. 14,948, passed in August 2024. This landmark legislation expands the country’s definition of renewable hydrogen to include hydrogen collected from natural sources as well as produced from solar, wind, biomass, and other renewable pathways.

In an exclusive interview with Vietnam Business Forum, Chairwoman and CEO Ma Xia and Chief APAC & MENA Representative of United Hydrogen Lanton Tan shared insights on replicating China's hydrogen ecosystem in Vietnam, pioneering in ASEAN and building partnerships that link production, storage, transport, and refueling.

From the Conference of the Parties (COP) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) — beginning with COP21 in Paris (2015) and most recently COP28 in Dubai (2025) — the world has undergone a decade of transformational climate action. At the heart of this transformation lies green hydrogen, emerging as the “technological key” to the new energy era and the achievement of net-zero emissions.

Low-emission hydrogen is anticipated to become a strategic feedback factor that ensures energy security while driving the growth of green industries.

In an interview with Business Forum Magazine, Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh, Chairman of the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC), emphasized that Vietnam’s natural resources and logistical advantages position it to emerge as a regional hydrogen hub. However, to realize this vision, Vietnam must “move fast but steadily,” combining international cooperation with domestic technology localization.

The 7th International Conference on Science and Technology (ICST-7), organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment (HCMUNRE), will take place on November 14, 2025, at the Hiep Phuoc campus. With the theme “Resources, Environment, and Agriculture in the Digital Era and Sustainable Development,” the event is not only a regular academic forum but also carries strategic significance amid the global transition toward the digital era and green development.

ICST-7 gathers numerous scientists, experts, and managers from both domestic and international contexts to exchange and share solutions addressing climate change, effective resource management, and promotion of green agriculture and circular economy toward sustainable development.

Ahead of the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huỳnh Quyền – Rector and Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee – shared insights on the new highlights, academic orientation, and the messages HCMUNRE aims to convey through this year’s international event.

“Hydrogen is not just a fuel — it is the lifeblood of a new green civilization. It links energy with environment, agriculture with water, and technology with human health. Vietnam can and must lead this transformation. We already have the engineers, the industrial base, and the entrepreneurial spirit. What we need is unity of purpose and a shared roadmap.”

He called upon universities, state agencies, and private enterprises to join VAHC’s Hydrogen Community Initiative, to train the next generation of hydrogen engineers, and to position Vietnam as ASEAN’s center for hydrogen technology and trade.

The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) serves as a pivotal platform to foster community building, facilitate knowledge transfer, and advise on project development. This analysis concludes that by strategically addressing these opportunities, with a focus on diversified production and pragmatic near-term applications, Vietnamese businesses can not only contribute to domestic decarbonization and waste reduction but also secure a competitive position in the future regional hydrogen market.

Its potential extends beyond reducing emissions — it may help restore the biological systems those emissions have damaged. In essence, hydrogen could become both the medicine and the message of the 21st century: a molecule linking planetary health and human well-being.
