Techno-Economic Analysis of a PV–Hydrogen System: A Case Study in Vietnam
A comprehensive study recently published in the journal Clean Energy (Volume 10, Issue 3, June 2026) has conducted a techno-economic assessment of photovoltaic (PV) systems combined with green hydrogen production at nine representative locations across Vietnam. The research, conducted by Van Tri Bui, My Hanh Pham, and Phuong Truong Le, developed a complete simulation framework on the MATLAB/Simulink platform, integrating solar radiation data, PV generation models, and electrolyzer performance to quantify energy yield and the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH). This study is considered an important contribution to Vietnam's green hydrogen development strategy, especially as the country aims for net-zero emissions by 2050.

Green hydrogen officially added to Vietnam's list of national strategic technology products
According to Decision No. 21/QĐ-TTg issued by the Prime Minister on April 30, 2026, "Systems for producing, storing, transporting and distributing green hydrogen and biofuels" have been officially recognized as a strategic technology product of Vietnam. The decision took effect from the date of signing and was published on the Government's electronic portal, marking an important milestone in the national energy and industrial development strategy.
PROPOSAL TO ADD HYDROGEN AND AMMONIA-POWERED VEHICLES AND VESSELS TO DECISION 876/QĐ-TTG: A COMPREHENSIVE ROADMAP FOR HEAVY TRUCKS, LONG-DISTANCE BUSES, TRAINS, MOTORCYCLES, AND SHIPS
Decision No. 876/QĐ-TTg dated July 22, 2022, by the Prime Minister of Vietnam approving the Action Program on Green Energy Transition and Reduction of Methane Emissions in the Transport Sector sets a target that by 2050, 100% of road motor vehicles, railway locomotives and carriages, and inland waterway vessels will be converted to use electricity and green energy. However, this document completely fails to mention hydrogen vehicles (Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles – FCVs) and ships powered by hydrogen or ammonia, even though these technologies are being aggressively advanced by pioneering countries worldwide.
