VAHC Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club

Since 2017, Vietnam has become a country with the level of renewable energy development, clean energy in the top 3 of the Asia Pacific region. By November 2021, at the climate conference held in Glasgow UK, the Prime Minister of Vietnam has set a target of net zero emissions of Vietnam by 2050 and by December 2022, Vietnam and the Group 7 plus 2 countries (Norway and Denmark) have signed a grant of 15.5 billion USD from 9 developed countries to support Vietnam's clean energy transition.

Ms. Ngo Nguyet Tran introduced GHD as one of the world's leading professional services companies operating in the global markets of environment, water, energy and resources, property and buildings, and transportation. GHD provides advisory, environmental, engineering, architecture and construction services. Established in 1928, GHD has more than 12,000 people across five continents and the Pacific region, and is privately owned by its people.

Dr. Nguyen Van Giao opened with the global transport electrification landscape. He presented figures on EV share of new car sales in 2025: China 55%, Vietnam ~40%, Europe 28%, Global 25%, Southeast Asia ~20%. More than 20 million EVs were sold globally in 2025. He emphasised: "Battery EVs have reached major market scale, especially in passenger cars and urban mobility."

Mr. John Tay opened with an introduction of KPT Group, established in 2009, with a Vietnam office at 62, Street 64, Area 14, Ward Cat Lai, Ho Chi Minh City. KPT Group has more than 150 employees and annual turnover of over VND 500 billion, with global offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and China. KPT Group operates in three main areas: KPT Green delivers integrated Air & Water Treatment solutions to protect the environments where people live and work; KPT Chem supplies high-purity and industrial chemicals essential for modern and green industries; KPT Energy delivers energy efficiency and clean energy solutions for industrial and power sectors.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Phu opened his presentation by placing hydrogen in the context of global emissions. He presented a greenhouse gas emissions diagram: energy and greenhouse gas emissions account for approximately 70% of global emissions, with main sources including electricity generation, transportation and industrial activities. Agriculture and forestry account for approximately 14% of global emissions, mainly from livestock farming, electricity use and deforestation. Forestry accounts for approximately 10% of global emissions, with CO₂ emissions mainly from deforestation and forest degradation, as well as forest fires. Industry accounts for approximately 6% of global emissions, with main sources including electricity generation, manufacturing and transportation of goods. Waste treatment also contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr. Kamo Kohei opened with an overview of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). As of 31 March 2026, MHI has 78,793 employees and 246 group companies, with revenue of 4,974.1 billion yen in FY2025. MHI operates across diverse fields: gas turbines, compressors, aero engines, CO₂ capture plants, metals machinery, chemical plants, transportation, waste-to-energy, turbochargers, aerospace, rocket engines and defence.

Dr. Tran Nguyen Trong Nguyen opened with an introduction of himself and Kenzen Consulting. He holds a PhD and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Yokohama National University (Japan). He worked at Obayashi Corporation Japan (2013–2016) and Obayashi Vietnam (2016–2023), before founding Kenzen Trading and Consulting Co. Ltd. in 2023 as CEO. Kenzen operates in two main areas: M&E work project management, and consulting to support Japanese companies investing and implementing projects in Vietnam. He has consulted on several green hydrogen projects, including hydrogen production systems from solar power, integrated hydrogen aquaculture systems, and smart agricultural solutions using renewable energy.

Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh opened his presentation by reviewing Vietnam's key policy milestones. In February 2024, the Prime Minister issued Decision 165/QD-TTg approving the National Hydrogen Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050. In June 2026, hydrogen was added to Vietnam's list of national strategic technologies. Targets are to produce 100,000–500,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year by 2030, rising to 10–20 million tonnes per year by 2050, with hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels expected to account for approximately 10% of final energy demand.

Dr. Cao Thuy Oanh opened her presentation by posing a central question: "Why has South Korea become the world's leading country in hydrogen consumption in transport?" She cited the International Energy Agency (IEA) in its Korea 2025 Energy Policy Review, which recognises South Korea as "the world's leading consumer of hydrogen in the transport sector." This is not a coincidence but the result of a methodical strategy spanning nearly 46 years.

The event was co-organised by the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) and the HUTECH School of Engineering (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology), with nearly 100 delegates in attendance, including experts, scientists, businesses, financial institutions and international partners.

The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) is pleased to welcome EnergyChain and its parent company DeepBrain Co Ltd, headquartered in Busan, South Korea, as official members of the Club from September 2026. EnergyChain's participation marks an important expansion of VAHC in connecting smart energy solutions and energy saving management into the hydrogen and energy transition ecosystem in Vietnam.
