The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Japanese technology company Moegi Co., Ltd to promote research and development of water technology and hydrogen-related projects in Vietnam and across the ASEAN region.
The signing takes place as the world commemorates the 15th anniversary of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster, which followed the devastating 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. The disaster marked a major turning point in the country’s energy history and disaster management. Fifteen years later, many innovative technology companies from Fukushima Prefecture have successfully rebuilt and are now expanding internationally, seeking partnerships to develop sustainable technology solutions.
Among them, Moegi Co., Ltd has emerged as a pioneer in water technology and environmental solutions. The company is currently expanding cooperation with partners in Vietnam and the ASEAN region to develop projects related to water treatment, water recycling, and new approaches to water supply—particularly the production of clean water directly from atmospheric humidity.
According to representatives of VAHC, water is not only an essential element of life but also a critical resource for hydrogen production. This is especially true for water electrolysis technologies used to produce green hydrogen, which require significant amounts of purified water. Innovative solutions developed by Moegi Co., Ltd—including technologies that enable water generation from air—offer new inspiration for communities to use water more efficiently and sustainably.
Such technologies could open new pathways for water supply in regions where freshwater resources are limited. The development of diverse and sustainable water technologies will play a crucial role in the value chain of the future hydrogen economy, helping alleviate concerns that increased hydrogen production could place additional pressure on conventional water resources.
Through the partnership, both organizations aim to promote joint research activities, technology exchange, business collaboration, and pilot projects in Vietnam. The cooperation is expected to contribute to the development of a regional ecosystem for hydrogen and sustainable water technologies, supporting clean energy transitions in Vietnam and ASEAN.
