Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club Representative to Present on Hydrogen Buses at Clean Buses in APAC 2026

By Annie Nguyen on March 9, 2026

On 17 March 2026, the international Clean Buses in APAC 2026 Conference, organized by Global Mass Transit, will take place at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, bringing together policymakers, international financial institutions, technology providers and public transport experts from across the Asia-Pacific region.

At the event, Ivan Lim, representative of the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club and head of the organization’s Singapore Desk, will participate as a speaker, presenting a session on the growing role of hydrogen-powered buses in regional public transport systems.

Presentation on emerging hydrogen bus applications in APAC

According to the conference agenda, Ivan Lim will deliver a presentation titled:

“Hydrogen Buses in APAC — The Emerging Use Case.”

The 7th session is tentatively scheduled for 16:00 – 16:45 on 17 March, within the conference program.

The presentation is expected to focus on:

  • emerging trends in hydrogen fuel-cell bus deployment across the Asia-Pacific region

  • practical use cases and pilot programs in several countries

  • advantages of hydrogen for high-duty urban transit operations

  • opportunities for developing a broader hydrogen mobility ecosystem.

Industry analysts increasingly see hydrogen buses as a complementary solution to battery-electric buses, particularly for longer routes, intensive transit corridors, and operations requiring shorter refueling times.

Focus of the Clean Buses in APAC 2026 conference

The Clean Buses in APAC 2026 Conference will address the transition toward zero-emission bus fleets in Asia-Pacific cities.

According to the program released by the organizer, the conference will explore key topics including:

  • market outlook for clean buses across APAC

  • policy and financing frameworks supporting deployment

  • funding mechanisms such as gross-cost contracts, battery-as-a-service models, and public-private partnerships (PPP)

  • charging infrastructure development

  • the use of data, AI and digital platforms for fleet and depot management.

The event also aims to discuss strategies for reducing transport emissions by up to 90 percent by 2050, in line with climate commitments made by many countries in the region.

Participation of international institutions

The conference is expected to feature speakers and representatives from leading international organizations and institutions, including:

  • KPMG

  • International Finance Corporation (IFC)

  • Asian Development Bank

  • United Nations ESCAP

as well as government officials, transport authorities, and technology companies involved in sustainable mobility.

Strengthening hydrogen cooperation in ASEAN

The participation of the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club in the Clean Buses in APAC forum reflects growing regional interest in hydrogen as a key component of the clean transport transition.

As many Asian countries accelerate efforts to decarbonize the transport sector, solutions such as battery-electric buses and hydrogen fuel-cell buses are increasingly seen as critical technologies for building sustainable, low-emission public transport systems in rapidly growing urban centers.
