VIETNAM – U.S. & INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS HYDROGEN WORKSHOP
Updates on the Global and Vietnam Hydrogen Industry as of March 2026 – International Technologies and Cooperation Opportunities with Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh City, January 27, 2026
The Vietnam – U.S. & International Partners Hydrogen Workshop is designed as a boutique, thematic workshop, aiming to provide a comprehensive update on the development of the hydrogen industry globally and in Vietnam as of March 2026, while introducing emerging technologies and discussing practical pathways for cooperation with Vietnam.
The program brings together international experts, companies, and organizations, creating a focused platform for in-depth exchange across policy – finance – projects – technology, reflecting the full hydrogen value chain in the current stage of development.
Presentation Topics: From Policy to Technology and Deployment
The presentations are structured in a logical sequence, moving from policy frameworks and financial mechanisms to project implementation and technology:
- Ms. Tomoe Kobayashi, Zero Carbon Division, Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (Japan), will open with a presentation on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). The session will focus on its applicability to energy transition projects in Vietnam, including hydrogen, highlighting its role as a key financial instrument through bilateral cooperation and carbon crediting.
- Mr. ianton Tan, Director, APAC, United Hydrogen, will deliver presentation about industrial and agriculture hydrogen society of United Hydrogen in China and seeking partners for spreading investment in Southeast Asia
- Mr. Andy Lei, Vice Chairman, Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC), will present an overview of Vietnam’s hydrogen sector as of March 2026, including policy developments, market status, emerging projects, and key challenges in the early-stage market.
- Dr. Tran Nguyen Trong Nguyen, Founder of Kenzen Consulting, representing Obayashi Corporation (Japan), will provide updates on Obayashi’s global hydrogen investment portfolio, along with progress on the Long An hydrogen project in Vietnam, illustrating the transition from research to real project deployment.
- Mr. Matthew Degyansky, CEO of Drive On, LLC (USA), will introduce Utility Global’s technology for hydrogen production without electricity, targeting hard-to-abate, high-emission industries and offering a new pathway for cost-effective hydrogen production in heavy industry.
- Mr. Siah Gary, APAC Representative of Solberg Manufacturing (USA), will present gas filtration and membrane technologies for hydrogen systems, particularly in fuel cell applications, emphasizing the importance of gas purity control for system performance and durability.
- Dr. Hee Jung Kim, CTO of UNIHYS (Korea), will conclude the session with a presentation on hydrogen safety technologies, including technical standards and risk management approaches currently integrated into Korea’s national hydrogen safety framework.
Key Highlights from the Workshop
Based on the presentations, several important trends are identified:
- Policy and financial mechanisms (such as JCM) play a critical role in initiating and accelerating hydrogen projects in emerging markets.
- Project deployment is gaining momentum, with increasing participation from international corporations and concrete developments in Vietnam and the region.
- Hydrogen technologies are rapidly diversifying, including innovative solutions such as hydrogen production without electricity.
- Balance-of-system components such as filtration, compression, and safety systems are becoming essential to ensure operational efficiency and reliability.
Cooperation Opportunities with Vietnam
Based on the discussions, several cooperation directions are proposed:
- Leveraging international financial mechanisms to support hydrogen projects
- Attracting investment and developing pilot and commercial projects in industry and energy
- Promoting technology transfer and localization in equipment, systems, and safety
- Developing standards and hydrogen safety frameworks aligned with international practices
- Strengthening integration into the global hydrogen supply chain
Vietnam’s Role Going Forward
Vietnam is currently at an early stage of hydrogen development, with strong opportunities to:
- Attract international technology and investment
- Pilot suitable project models
- Gradually build a domestic hydrogen market and ecosystem
Within the ASEAN context, Vietnam has the potential to become a key regional hub connecting global hydrogen value chains.
