VAHC Hydrogen Seminar Highlights Pathways to Clean Hydrogen in ASEAN
We want to say a lot of thanks to Dr. Hao Ngo from Neuman & Esser to cover the cost of Dinner for our Seminar!
Ho Chi Minh City, June 27, 2025 — The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) successfully hosted a high-level seminar titled “Clean Hydrogen: Technology & Solutions for Hard-to-Abate Industries – Feasibility & Financing Guidance for Hydrogen Projects in Vietnam and ASEAN” at the Lion City Group headquarters, 42 Le Anh Xuan Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The event brought together experts from Vietnam, China, Japan, and the EU to share best practices, technologies, and project development insights for the growing hydrogen economy in Southeast Asia.
A Platform for Regional Hydrogen Collaboration
Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh, Chairman of VAHC, opened the seminar by emphasizing the Club’s mission: to build a collaborative hydrogen ecosystem in ASEAN. In his welcome speech, he reaffirmed the importance of practical, reasonable scale solutions for decarbonizing energy-intensive sectors.
Dr. Nguyen Huu Luong from the Vietnam Petroleum Institute then gave an in-depth overview of Vietnam’s green hydrogen development potential, identifying both emerging opportunities and policy gaps.
Session Highlights
Session 1: Green Hydrogen Outlook
Dr. Luong highlighted Vietnam’s growing momentum in renewable hydrogen, driven by its vast solar and wind resources. However, challenges remain in infrastructure readiness, investment frameworks, and regional integration.
Session 2: Industrial Applications
Dr. Hao Ngo from Neuman & Esser presented hydrogen solutions tailored for steel, cement, and construction industries, using real-world examples from Japan and Europe to showcase feasibility and emission reduction outcomes.
Session 3: Project Feasibility in Vietnam
Dr. Tran Nguyen Trong Nguyen (Kenzen Consulting) provided a step-by-step roadmap for developing bankable hydrogen projects in Vietnam, drawing on his prior experience with Obayashi Corporation.
Session 4: Technology Innovation through Biomanufacturing
Prof. Shizhong Li, Chief Scientist at Tsinghua University’s Hydrogen Energy Materials and Engineering Research Center, introduced cutting-edge biomanufacturing techniques to enable a low-cost green hydrogen economy. His insights bridged science and commercialization in an inspiring session.
Session 5: Financing Clean Hydrogen
Dr. Duong Mien Ka from Ikonomy laid out innovative investment pathways, including blockchain finance, to enable blue hydrogen deployment in ASEAN’s fishing industry and other mobility industrial sectors.
Roundtable: The Path Forward
The seminar concluded with a dynamic roundtable moderated by Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hieu from PV Gas. The panel included thought leaders from academia, technology, and project development who discussed investment perspectives, public-private collaboration, and regional value chains. We concluded the Roundtable Discussion by Prof. Li: Let's Together Make it Happened Right Now!
Closing and Networking
Ms. Mai Thu Binh, Chairlady of BP Logistics and VAHC Logistics Hub Head, wrapped up the event by calling for deeper regional cooperation. Dr. Hao Ngo delivered closing reflections on the role of innovation in ASEAN's decarbonization journey.
The day concluded with a networking dinner, offering participants the chance to connect, exchange ideas, and form potential partnerships to drive hydrogen adoption forward.
We conclude to start 2 demonstration project by Ikonomy for fishing industry and bio ethanol to hydrogen by Prof. Li, both in Vietnam
