Welcome to Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club: KPT Chemical Group
Date: August 29, 2026 - Annie Nguyễn, VAHC Secretariat
The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club warmly welcomes KPT Chemical Group from Malaysia as an official member starting from August 2026, marking an important step in connecting the hydrogen ecosystem between Sarawak and Vietnam.

About KPT Chemical Group
KPT Chemical Group is an environmental technology and industrial chemical enterprise established in 2009, headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City with global operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and China. With over 150 employees and annual revenue exceeding 500 billion VND, KPT is one of Vietnam's most notable ammonia suppliers and storage operators. The company owns specialized chemical logistics including storage terminals, road tankers, and ammonia cylinder filling systems.
KPT's Core Capabilities
Industrial Chemical and Gas Platform: With over 15 years of experience in industrial chemicals and gases (NH₃, CO₂, H₂), KPT possesses an established industrial customer network and dedicated storage infrastructure. The company operates nationwide chemical warehousing and distribution logistics, including storage facilities in Dong Nai.
Green Ammonia and Hydrogen Supply Chain: KPT is strategically transitioning from a traditional chemical distributor to a hydrogen infrastructure and application developer, positioning itself as a solution provider for fuel cells, green ammonia, and hydrogen logistics.
First Commercial Hydrogen Activities in Vietnam with Hydrexia (2026)
The year 2026 marks a significant milestone as KPT signed Vietnam's first commercial hydrogen contract with Hydrexia, a leading solid-state hydrogen storage technology company. Under the agreement, Hydrexia will provide magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage containers (MHX) and mobile hydrogen refueling stations (MHRS).
A distinctive feature of this model is the hydrogen supply sourced from SEDC Energy's Darul Hana H2 Plant in Sarawak, Malaysia - one of the region's leading green hydrogen hubs. The model combines three critical elements: imported hydrogen supply from Malaysia, Hydrexia's mobile storage and refueling technology, and KPT's existing industrial gas distribution platform in Vietnam.

Mr. John Tay, CEO of KPT Group, delivered a presentation at the seminar "H₂ Technology Solutions in Vietnam's Sustainable Development Roadmap: Agriculture, Environment, and Carbon Markets" at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment in July 2026.
Strategic Partnership with PECC2 and Ecosystem Development
On January 8, 2026, PECC2, in collaboration with SEDC Energy, Hydrexia, GF, and KPT Group, organized a Workshop and Roadshow on green hydrogen production and MHX solid-state storage technology at the PECC2 Innovation Hub - marking the first time this technology was exhibited in Vietnam.
The program marked an important milestone in strategic cooperation between PECC2, KPT Group, GF, SEDC Energy, and Hydrexia in developing green hydrogen projects in Vietnam. PECC2 and GF contribute expertise in clean energy engineering and local project development; SEDC Energy brings practical experience from Sarawak's green hydrogen projects; Hydrexia provides advanced solid-state hydrogen storage and transport technology solutions.

In January 2026, the MHX solid-state hydrogen storage container technology will be showcased in person in Ho Chi Minh City for the first time, as part of a roadshow organized through the collaboration of Hydrexa, KPT Group, and PECC2.
Connecting the Sarawak - Vietnam Hydrogen Ecosystem
KPT serves as a vital bridge in developing the hydrogen corridor between Sarawak, Malaysia, and Vietnamese provinces and cities. Sarawak is being positioned as Malaysia's green energy hub with large-scale hydropower, green hydrogen production, and hybrid floating solar development.
KPT's membership in the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club will facilitate cross-border cooperation, experience and technology sharing, and open opportunities for developing commercial hydrogen projects in Vietnam and the region.
