Ms. Min Ong Yuen (Phoenix Contact) presents the vision for Power-to-X integration in the journey toward a carbon-neutral future

At the "Energy Evolution: Empowering the Future of Industrial Energy" seminar held on August 20 in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Min Ong Yuen – Business Development Engineer at Phoenix Contact (Southeast Asia) – delivered a key presentation on "Power-to-X in the All Electric Society".

The All Electric Society – Vision and Roadmap

Ms. Min Ong Yuen opened by defining the All Electric Society as a world where renewable energy is available globally as the primary energy source in sufficient quantities and at economical cost. The foundation of this society is the comprehensive electrification, networking, and automation of all sectors of the economy and infrastructure.

 

Three stages of renewable energy utilization

Her presentation outlined the roadmap for renewable energy use in three stages:

  • Direct use: Renewable electricity is used immediately for industrial and residential applications.

  • Short-term storage: Battery energy storage systems (BESS) play a crucial role in balancing supply and demand, especially for intermittent sources like solar and wind.

  • Long-term storage and expanded applications: This is the role of Power-to-X, enabling the conversion of renewable electricity into other energy forms such as green hydrogen, methanation, and e-fuels, serving hard-to-electrify sectors like maritime, aviation, and heavy industry.

 

 

Phoenix Contact's role in the Power-to-X ecosystem

Ms. Min Ong Yuen highlighted specific applications of Phoenix Contact's automation and DC power electronics solutions across the Power-to-X value chain:

  • Electrolysis Plants: Holistic concepts for electrification, networking, and automation, ensuring compliance with functional safety, explosion protection, and cybersecurity standards. The open control system enables easy connection to external systems, remote maintenance, and integration into larger systems.

  • Hydrogen Refueling Stations: Automation solutions enabling remote connection of all sub-modules, interface standardization, and reduced engineering effort.

  • Stationary Fuel Cells: Open control systems allowing easy integration into end customer solutions.

 

 

Connecting with sustainable development strategy

The core message of Ms. Min Ong Yuen's presentation was the need for close collaboration among stakeholders to build a carbon-neutral future with green hydrogen. This perfectly complemented other seminar presentations on hydrogen market opportunities in Vietnam, Obayashi's hydrogen projects in Southeast Asia, and Kanadevia's Power-to-X solutions.
