SUMMARY REPORT OF THE WORKSHOP – SEMINAR
“Applications of Hydrogen in Healthcare and Rehabilitation”
The workshop and seminar titled “Applications of Hydrogen in Healthcare and Rehabilitation” was held at Hydrogen World Café, jointly organized by the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) and Hydrogen World.

The event aimed to create an academic exchange platform where scientists, medical doctors, researchers, businesses, and the interested community could share scientific foundations, practical experiences, and emerging trends in hydrogen applications for healthcare and rehabilitation. The program also sought to bridge knowledge with practice and to support the structured, safe, and sustainable development of hydrogen applications in the future.
The workshop was attended by a wide range of experts, scientists, medical professionals, and industry representatives, including:
Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh, Chairman of VAHC;
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tam, Vice Chairman of VAHC;
Dr. Cao Thuy Oanh, Representative of VAHC R&D team;
Dr. Tran Thanh Tam, Deputy Head of the Office of Scientific Research and External Relations, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment;
Mr. Nguyen Thieu Son, Founder of Hydrogen World;
Dr. Nhu Duc Thang, Department of Rehabilitation, Central Psychiatric Hospital No. 2;
Ms. Ho Thi Bich Phuong, Representative of UNP Healthcare Vietnam;
and Mr. Ianton Tan, APAC Director of United Hydrogen (joining online), together with numerous guests and participants interested in hydrogen-related fields.
The program focused on the scientific basis of hydrogen and its potential impacts on human health; applications of hydrogen in healthcare and rehabilitation; an introduction to VAHC and the hydrogen ecosystem in Vietnam and ASEAN; clinical experience in rehabilitation medicine and mental health; and the presentation of hydrogen-rich water and related products. Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh, Chairman of VAHC emphasize that VAHC broaden hydrogen applications and connect international partners to build good hydrogen communities in Vietnam and ASEAN and hydrogen application to healthcare will be a good path to educate the market.
Notably, Dr. Nhu Duc Thang presented a topic on the scientific and practical foundations of hydrogen gas applications in rehabilitation medicine and mental health care. His presentation highlighted the role of oxidative stress and neuroinflammation in disorders such as anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances.
A descriptive study with supportive intervention involving 55 patients showed reductions in anxiety and depression levels, improvements in sleep quality, and no serious adverse effects reported. Preliminary results suggest that hydrogen may serve as a safe supportive therapy, warranting further systematic research and clinical standardization.
The workshop concluded with an open discussion and Q&A session, fostering active academic exchange. Participants were then invited to experience hydrogen applications firsthand at Hydrogen World Café, including hydrogen inhalation, hydrogen-rich water consumption, and coffee brewed with hydrogen-rich water. These activities provided participants with practical insights into hydrogen applications in daily life.
The event ended in a positive and collaborative atmosphere, opening up opportunities for future cooperation, research, and the development of hydrogen applications in a scientific, safe, and sustainable manner.
Following the workshop, VAHC, in collaboration with Central Psychiatric Hospital No. 2 under the leadership of Dr. Nhu Duc Thang, will implement a clinical hydrogen treatment pilot project, marking an important step toward translating research into medical practice.
