Summary on The Seminar on Technology and Policy for Green Transportation in Vietnam

 

On March 25, 2025 at Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management in HCMC (FSPPM), we have co organized the Seminar n Technology and Policy for Green Transportation in Vietnam from 8:15 to 14:30

 

Professor Jonathan R. Pincus, Director of FSPPM expressed strong support of FSPPM in bringing in technologies and suggestion of policies toward green transportation journey of Vietnam. Prof. Jonathan welcomed delegates who attended directly or online and hoped that hydrogen can be an alternative solution toward the green journey.

Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh, Chairman of Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) expressed his sincere thanks to esteemed delegates including Prof. Jonathan R. Pincus, Mr. Masuo Ono, Consul General of Japan in HCMC, Mr. Jame Scott, Consul General of New Zealand in HCMC, Prof. Nguyen Van Dai of FSPPM, Mr. Vo Minh Tri, Director of Vietcombank East Saigon, JICA representative Ms. Vu Thi Thuy Quynh, delegate speakers from Pure Hydrogen, Honda, Solberg Manufacturing, Kawasaki, Nishimura & Asahi, Vietnam Petroleum Insitute and PV Gas. Mr. Minh expressed his passion in establishing hydrogen projects for mobility as a showcase for researchers, policy makers, investors and local residents of HCMC to experience the real hydrogen mobility to improve the process and expand.

 

H.E. Mr. Masuo Ono explained about Japan hydrogen strategy and net zero journey. Japan established AZEC to promote green transition in Asia. Japan is a key player on JEPT regime. Recently NHK's report is that Japan Ambassador announced about 30 billion US$ investment to Vietnam clean energy sector in the years to come.

Mr. Ono wished that the Seminar could be a good start toward green journey.

 

Dr. Pham Van Dai on behalf of FSPPM delivered the presentation on Driving Change: How Vietnam’s Private Sector Leads the Transition to Zero-Emission Vehicles. Dr Dai emphasized that Vietnam is leading ASEAN countries in delivering number of EVs running on streets and private sector doing green transportation in Vietnam mainly did at their own effort and there were not much finance support from the Government like some ASEAN countries.

 

Lawyer Phuc Nguyen from Nishimura & Asahi delivered key policies highlights: Key legal and investment aspects for foreign investors in Vietnam’s green transportation sector

 

On behalf of Honda Motor Co Ltd, Mr. Masato Asayama delivered the presenation Realizing a carbon-neutral society by Hydrogen, how hydrogen fuel cell technology contributes to the zero emission journey. Honda has developed hydrogen fuel cell advanced tech that could work with truck and bus makers to integrated in.

 

Online from Brisbane, Australia, Mr. Clint Butler, National Sales Director of Pure Hydrogen presented the topic: Electrolyzer Producing hydrogen in city - Hydrogen micro hub to make your city zero emission. Pure Hydrogen has established hydrogen micro hub in Australia, involved in airport hydrogen supply and airplane. Pure Hydrogen wants to establish hydrogen highway in Vietnam using the hydrogen micro hub model. The coastline of Vietnam of wind and solar potentials that can establish micro hub for about 300-500km distance and the heavy trucks, buses and stop over the distance for hydrogen refill for their North - South zero emission journey.

 

The Seminar went on with presentation on Sustainable water source for hydrogen production in urban areas - How to reuse drainage water in city to produce hydrogen by Mr. Pham Manh Doan, Ecolab Group, USA. To produce hydrogen, a lot of water is needed (1kg H2 needs about 9liter of water) and reuse drainage water in city to produce hydrogen is good solution

 

Dr. Doan Xuan Tien, Team Leader of R&D Center of PV Gas explained about PV Gas Green Journey with the first start on Hydrogen plant demonstration project - Call for partners to join and fund the demonstration H2 project

 

The role of hydrogen fuel cell technology to achieve carbon neutrality society - What Solberg Manufacturing can contribute to this journey by Mr. Gary Siah, Solberg Manufacturing, USA

 

Panel Discussion: How hydrogen fuel cell can help reduce emission in transportation – Establish a hydrogen fuel cell mobility project model in HCMC
