Partner's news: 1st GSFA Technical Symposium: Unlocking High-Tech Decarbonisation through Green Fuels and EU-Asia Energy Cooperation

On June 9, 2026, at the Residence Palace in Brussels, Belgium, the Global Sustainable Fuel Alliance (GSFA) will hold its first Technical Symposium & Reception.

The event is themed "Unlocking High-Tech Decarbonisation through Green Fuels and EU-Asia Energy Cooperation".

The symposium brings together senior representatives from government, industry, and academia across Asia and the European Union.

The goal is to advance dialogue on policy harmonisation, technology breakthroughs, and the deployment of green fuels - from hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia to e-fuels - across the semiconductor, AI, and high-tech sectors.

Programme Details

The event runs from 14:30 to 19:00 CEST (registration from 14:00) at the Passage Room, Residence Palace, Brussels.

Opening Remarks (14:30 - 15:00) feature:

  • Dr. Stefan Mengel - Head of Science, Technology and Innovation Section, Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the EU (Germany)

  • RNDr. Jakub Skalnik - Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Belgium (Czech Republic)

  • Mr. Patrick Dupriez - President, Federal Council for Sustainable Development (Belgium)

  • Dr. Ying-Chyi Chou - Director (S&T), Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium (Taiwan)

Session I: Architecting the Green Corridor – Supply Meets Rigid Of take (15:00 - 15:40)

  • Dr. Jan Veres (CEET, VSB-TUO, Czech Republic): Integrated Hydrogen Technologies and Research Infrastructure for Decarbonisation of Energy Systems.

  • Dr. Meg J.C. Lin (GSFA - Taiwan Hydrogen Cluster, NCU): P2X2P - Enabling Virtual Grid Interconnection via Green Fuels as Energy Carriers.

Session II: De-risking the Green Premium – The Path to Real-World Deployment (15:20 - 16:30)

  • Mr. Andrew Pease (Mission Innovation - Energy Systems Catapult, UK): A Whole-Systems Approach to Industrial Decarbonisation.

  • Ts. Gladys Mak (RJRMC, Malaysia): Policy Ambition to Bankable Deployment – Bridging renewables, green fuel and capital markets in emerging economies.

Symposium Roundtable (15:40 - 16:30) with all speakers and invitees, focusing on:

  • Harmonising Standards: Bridging EU RED III, RE100/SBTi through cross-border ISCC frameworks.

  • De-risking the "Green Premium": Securing project bankability through long-term off-take agreements with Asian tech sectors.

  • Strategic Joint Ventures: Translating MOUs into binding financial and engineering structures between EU and Asia.

Networking & Reception from 17:00 to 19:00.

Closed-door event by invitation only

Participation is strictly limited to 40 invited experts and is not open for public registration.

The Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) is honoured to have received a direct invitation from Dr. Meg J.C. Lin (Meg Jiun Chyi Lin), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Global Sustainable Fuel Alliance (GSFA) and Deputy Director of the Taiwan Hydrogen Cluster at National Central University, to attend the symposium in person in Brussels.

However, due to objective reasons, the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club can only participate online.
