Venue: Melia Hotel, 44 Lý Thường Kiệt, Hà Nội

In 2021, Viet Nam pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Shifting from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources like solar and wind power has been crucial for meeting this commitment and the country has made progress in developing a renewable energy market. With this conference, the German Embassy wants to shed light on opportunities and challenges for the local labour market and economies in Viet Nam in the context of the just energy transition. Measures to create forward- looking favourable framework conditions for enhancing green skills and green jobs need to be identified and implemented. The German example demonstrates that a just energy transition brings significant economic growth and changes affecting training and decent employment. While reducing coal-fired power generation leads to job losses in the conventional energy sector, it also presents opportunities for modernizing the economy, creating new sustainable industries and green jobs.
Building on the long-standing cooperation between Germany and Viet Nam, the German Embassy organizes the conference to provide a platform for national and international policymakers, businesses, researchers and a wider public to come together and discuss this emerging topic.
