Japan ex excutive of SMBC Services Co Ltd becomes Board member of Pacific Group and Head of Finance and Investment Department of VAHC Club
On June 18, 2023, Pacific Group signed a contract with Mr. Shin Kawaguchi, former chairman of SMBC Services Co Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of SMBC. Mr. Kawaguchi will hold the position of senior advisor and Member of the Board of Directors of the Company.
Mr. Shin Kawaguchi is currently an Audit & Supervisory Board Member of Sugita Ace Co. Ltd., and Toba Inc., both listed on the Standard Market of TSE, and the Corporate Auditor of the VFR Inc., which is the drone management services venture company. He also serves NPO Hawaii aloha Life Enrichment Association and GIA Su-Clu-Lab Terrace which is a volunteer association dedicating so called Inclusive activities (live with handicapped people, namely autism spectrum disorder and behavioral disorder children, in society) as a director.
In 2020 he retired from the position of the chairman of SMBC Operation Service, 100% subsidiary of SMBC (Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation), where he oversaw domestic banking business’s back-office operations and logistics services. Before he was appointed to the position in 2018, he was the CEO of the SMBC Center Service, former name of the company during 2015 to 2017.
Until 2011 when he was appointed an Audit & Supervisory Board Member of the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial group, Co. Ltd., the holding company of SMBC, Mr. Kawaguchi, as the banking executive, experienced various part of the business for more than 10 years such as the General Manager of Quality Management Department where he had responsibility for all customer satisfaction matters of the bank, regional head of retail banking business, the General Manager of the Financial Consulting Department, where he led the bank’s retail branch business mainly in the field of securities and insurance sales, and the Branch Manager of Kagoshima, Kyushu where he made a number of corporate finance deals.
Toward December 1998 when the Japanese Government allowed banks to start selling mutual funds, Mr. Kawaguchi devoted his efforts to laying the foundation in this business for Sumitomo Bank as the Deputy General Manager of the Investment Services Business Department. Before assuming that responsibility, almost his entire career at the bank was in research and corporate planning, which included the posts of; Chief Economist in Europe (1987-1990), Chief Economist in the USA (1990-1992), and Deputy General Manager of the Corporate Planning Department (1996-1997).
Mr. Kawaguchi, bone in 1956 in Tokyo Japan, graduated from the Economics Faculty of the University of Tokyo in 1980 and then joined Sumitomo Bank.
