ISO/TC 197/SC 1: Setting Standards for Large-Scale Hydrogen Energy Systems and Cross-Sector Applications

ISO/TC 197/SC 1 is a subcommittee under the ISO Technical Committee 197, focused on standardization of large-scale hydrogen energy systems and cross-sector energy applications, including testing, certification, sustainability, and installation aspects. Established in 2022, it is based at the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).

Scope of Work:
SC 1 develops international standards for large-scale hydrogen energy systems and cross-sector applications, covering testing, certification, sustainability, and installation. The subcommittee collaborates with other standardization bodies and stakeholders to ensure consistency and efficiency in implementation.

Structure and Membership:

• Chair (until end of 2025): Mr. Laurent Antoni

• ISO Technical Program Manager (TPM): Ms. Kirsi Silander-van Hunen

• ISO Editing Manager (EM): Mr. Arun Aby Paraecattil

• Participating Members: 30 countries, including Canada, Japan, Germany, France, USA, China, South Korea, Australia, and others

• Observing Members: 7 countries, including Colombia, Luxembourg, Peru, Iran, Namibia, Ukraine, and Thailand

Main Working Groups:

• WG 1: Methods for determining greenhouse gas emissions related to hydrogen production, adjustment, and transport to point of use

• WG 2: Liquid hydrogen fuel storage systems for aviation

• WG 4: Water electrolysis in grid service

• WG 5: Emission determination methods for liquid hydrogen adjustment and transport

• WG 6: Emission determination methods for ammonia conversion and transport

• WG 7: Emission determination methods for organic liquid hydrogen carriers conversion and transport
