How AI is Reshaping the Green Hydrogen Value Chain: From Production to End-Use – An Indian Perspective
Ho Chi Minh City, July 1, 2026 Annie Nguyen
Ho Chi Minh City, June 30, 2026 – At the Ho Chi Minh City Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (SIHUB), 123 Truong Dinh Street, Xuan Hoa Ward, Vietnam, the ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) held a workshop titled “AI ⇄ Hydrogen – Two-Way Acceleration for the Energy and Intelligence Era”.

Dr. Sandip P. Dhurat (India) presented an in-depth paper: “How AI is Reshaping the Green Hydrogen Value Chain: From Production to End-Use – An Indian Perspective”.
About the Speaker
Dr. Sandip P. Dhurat is an Inventor, Strategist, Systems Architect, Founder & Managing Partner of SPD Futurix LLP (Mumbai, India). He was nominated for the “Future Hydrogen Leader” award at the World Hydrogen Awards 2026, holds 21 patents, and has published 30 books. He is notable for developing the Hydrogen Vehicle Safety Index (HVSI) – the first global standard for hydrogen-powered vehicles, and for inventing HydroX. He is also a member of the International Association for Carbon Capture.
Main content of the presentation (based on video and PDF presentation materials):
1. Why does Hydrogen need AI?
Hydrogen is not just a fuel, but a complex ecosystem. AI transforms hydrogen systems from reactive to predictive and intelligent ecosystems.
2. AI in Green Hydrogen Production
Optimizing electrolyzers.
Predicting renewable energy output (solar, wind).
Improving overall efficiency, making production systems more flexible and economical, especially suitable for Vietnam's fluctuating renewable energy sources.
3. AI in Storage & Transportation: AI supports:
Continuous monitoring (pressure, temperature, equipment status).
Predictive maintenance.
Optimized logistics and asset utilization.
4. AI for Hydrogen Safety:
Enhanced leak detection.
Early anomaly identification.
Predictive safety management.
The speaker emphasized: A hydrogen incident can increase project costs by 50-70%, while adding an AI layer only increases investment costs by about 3-8%.
5. Digital Twins & H2Guardian:
One of the highlights was the concept of Digital Twin and the H2Guardian system he developed. This is a virtual replica of the entire hydrogen infrastructure (tanks, pipelines, compressors, etc.), enabling:
Real-time virtual monitoring.
Predictive and optimized performance.
Enhancing safety and regulatory compliance.
6. AI for the Hydrogen Market & AI-Supported End-Use Applications:
Demand forecasting.
Market analysis.
Optimization of hydrogen applications in mobility (fuel cells), heavy industry (steel, chemicals, fertilizers), power generation, and smart energy systems.
7. Future Vision:
Autonomous Hydrogen Ecosystems. AI-integrated hydrogen networks will become adaptive, sustainable, and self-optimizing. Hydrogen provides energy, AI provides intelligence – together creating a foundation for sustainable development.
Conclusion & Call to Action
Dr. Sandip P. Dhurat affirmed: “Hydrogen is the fuel of the future; AI is the intelligence that makes it scalable and commercially viable.” He acknowledged Vietnam's efforts through TCVN TC 197 and called for increased cooperation between India, Vietnam, and the global hydrogen community.

The presentation, combining strategic perspectives from India with specific technological solutions (HVSI, H2Guardian, Digital Twin), provided high practical value to participants at the SIHUB workshop. This is a significant contribution to the strategy for developing green hydrogen and smart energy transition in Vietnam.
India is one of the countries with the most ambitious national hydrogen strategy in Asia (National Green Hydrogen Mission 2023), aiming to produce 5 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030. The country possesses significant advantages in renewable energy (target of 500 GW by 2030), low production costs, and a huge demand for hydrogen from the fertilizer, steel, and oil refining industries. Dr. Sandeep P. Dhurat is an inventor, founder of SPD Futurix LLP, author of the HVSI (Hydrogen Vehicle Safety Index) and H2 Guardian.
