As the global energy landscape undergoes a profound transformation towards sustainability, PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) is positioning itself at the forefront of Vietnam’s clean energy revolution, with green hydrogen as a strategic pillar for the future.

Recognizing hydrogen’s critical role in the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors such as power generation, transport, and heavy industry, PV GAS is implementing its “Hydrogen Development Roadmap” in alignment with the National Hydrogen Strategy and Petrovietnam’s long-term vision for net-zero emissions by 2050.

In 2026, PV GAS plans to launch pilot production of green hydrogen (H₂) at the Dinh Co Gas Processing Plant, utilizing electricity from renewable energy sources. This project marks the company’s first step toward building a domestic hydrogen ecosystem, with the goal of producing green hydrogen at commercial scale for power, transportation, and industrial applications.

PV GAS also plans to study the integration of hydrogen into existing gas infrastructure, such as blending hydrogen into natural gas pipelines and optimizing the use of storage and distribution facilities for hydrogen and its derivatives, including ammonia and methanol.

“We see green hydrogen as an essential pathway to energy transition and an opportunity to enhance PV GAS’s competitive advantage in the regional and global markets,” said a representative of the company. “By leveraging our existing gas infrastructure and expertise, we aim to become one of Vietnam’s leading players in clean hydrogen production, storage, and distribution.”

Alongside the hydrogen initiative, PV GAS continues to expand its LNG business, having successfully operated the Thi Vai LNG Terminal since 2024. The company is preparing for the Son My LNG Terminal Project and exploring opportunities to export LNG to regional markets, laying the foundation for a flexible and integrated gas–hydrogen energy network.

PV GAS is also investing in digital transformation and smart energy management, developing smart plants and automated systems to optimize operations, ensure safety, and reduce emissions. The Smart Plant project at the Ca Mau Gas Processing Plant (GPP Ca Mau) is currently in Phase 1 and will be expanded to other facilities nationwide.

For the 2026–2030 period, PV GAS has set ambitious goals: achieving average annual revenue growth of 8–10%, securing 100% of Vietnam’s natural gas market, 65–75% of the LPG and LNG markets, and expanding international business to account for 30–35% of total revenue.

By 2030, PV GAS aims to have 25% of its revenue from new energy and green products, including hydrogen, LNG, and renewable-based services, firmly establishing its position among the Top 50 largest enterprises in Southeast Asia (Fortune Southeast Asia 500).

“Hydrogen is not just a new product—it represents our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and Vietnam’s energy independence,” the company emphasized. “PV GAS will continue to pioneer and invest in the future of green energy for the nation and the region.”

Milestones in 35 Years of Development of PV GAS

For 35 years, the Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) has grown into one of Vietnam’s largest enterprises, playing a pivotal role in ensuring national energy security and contributing significantly to the country’s socio-economic development.

Since its establishment in 1990, PV GAS has been assigned by Petrovietnam to build and develop the complete gas industry value chain in Vietnam, from gas collection and transportation to processing, storage, distribution, and trading of gas products such as LPG, CNG, and LNG.

Over the past 35 years, PV GAS has gathered and transported more than 180 billion cubic meters of gas, provided fuel for power generation plants producing over 250 billion kWh of electricity, supplied more than 20 million tons of LPG, and more than 2 million tons of condensate, ensuring stable supply for domestic industries.

PV GAS has also invested in major infrastructure systems including gas pipelines across the country, processing plants, and LNG terminals. The company currently operates and manages over 1,200 km of gas pipelines, two gas processing plants (Dinh Co and Ca Mau), three LPG terminals, one LNG terminal at Thi Vai, and a network of LPG and CNG distribution facilities nationwide.

These investments not only ensure the efficient use of domestic gas resources but also lay the groundwork for Vietnam to integrate into the international gas and energy markets.

PV GAS has been consistently recognized among the Top 3 most profitable companies in Vietnam, maintaining strong financial capacity and sustainable growth. The company’s total assets have exceeded VND 90 trillion, and annual revenue typically reaches VND 90–100 trillion.

Through persistent innovation, PV GAS has played a pioneering role in the clean energy transition. The company is actively expanding into new fields such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) import and trading, green hydrogen, and smart energy management solutions.

In addition to its business achievements, PV GAS has maintained strong commitments to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community development, contributing hundreds of billions of dong annually to education, healthcare, and environmental projects across Vietnam.

As it celebrates 35 years of progress, PV GAS continues to uphold its mission of ensuring energy security and sustainable development, aligned with Vietnam’s green growth strategy and carbon neutrality roadmap by 2050.

With solid foundations, experienced human resources, and a spirit of innovation, PV GAS is determined to remain a leading enterprise in Vietnam’s gas industry, pioneering the nation’s journey toward a green and sustainable energy future.
